Self-Love Month: 4 Ways to Survive and Thrive After Your Divorce

While for some, Valentine’s Day is a cause for celebration, for others, particularly those who have just experienced heartbreak, the whole day (or even month) can seem rather daunting, and we understand that.

If you’ve just gone through a divorce, you may have dreaded the coming and going of February 14th… and that’s okay! Just remember that you are not alone, and that there are lots of things to look forward to. Here we’re taking a look at some things you can do to give yourself a break this year to make sure you give yourself the love you deserve.

  • Keep yourself busy

Don’t stay idle! Schedule appointments you’ve been putting off, finish up unfinished projects, run errands, or make a list of things you need to do every day. Travel, visit new places, see new sights. Checking items off your checklist will make you feel accomplished and help take your mind off the divorce for once.

  • Spend time with your friends and family

Another good way to take your mind off of the divorce is to spend the day with your other friends, either single or not. There are plenty of others out there who just don’t care about the day, but sometimes it’s best to embrace the day in a new way. Hanging out with friends will help remind you that moving on isn’t all bad because there are so many new memories left to create with the people in your life. There are new experiences to experience and new, exciting people to meet. Now is the time to start!

  • Treat yourself to a spa day

Self-care is important, particularly on a day when you know you are going to feel down. Book yourself a day at the spa! Let a massage technician ease your stress and take advantage of the opportunity to make yourself feel special.

  • Take quality alone time

Being alone doesn’t always mean being lonely. In fact, being alone can be really beneficial to your mental health. Rent your favorite movies and order your favorite food. Celebrate yourself!

Dealing with the stresses of a divorce is never easy, particularly around holidays.
